🍵 Tea Friend
Thank you so much for volunteering as a Tea Friend :)
Things get busy during the event, so this document is meant to provide a baseline in case there’s not a lot of time to talk through our tasks!
Overview
- Steeped in Sound is a DIY, free community event hosted by The Tea Stand & LEEWAY
- Bimonthly event series on Sunday afternoons
- This is Volume 12, first volume was back in May 2023
- More info about Steeped in Sound
- We will be serving free tea the whole event with YOUR help (thank you!)
Tea Service
- Welcome people as they walk in
- Say hi, offer tea
- Help them pick a mug
- Explain some mugs are locally made and available for sale
- IMPORTANT: people who buy a mug should Venmo @theteastandnyc with name of ceramicist and description of mug
- Help them pick a tea
- Show people the print out of the tea menu
- Be prepared to answer a couple basic questions:
- “Which of these have caffeine?”
- “Which would you recommend?”
- “Do you have any iced tea?”
- Ask if they want agave syrup!
- Pour them a cup:
- Tea bag first
- Pour 6-8oz of water even if the mug is large
- Stir to help steep!
- Final words:
- “Let steep for X minutes” (usually 3-5 is safe)
- “You can drop your used bags in the bowl by the mirror if you’d like”
- “Unlimited refills, when you’re done for the day, please wash your mug”
- It’s often difficult to balance conversation + serving everyone, but I always try to engage in meaningful convos when possible
"Back of House" (behind the table)
- IMPORTANT: constantly replenish thermoses with 180F water
- We have an electric kettle which we can set to a specific temp, so this is easy
- Goal is to have the thermos (and kettle) full of water at all times, it goes fast!
- Replenish mugs as necessary
- Usually this just requires grabbing a mug from the drying rack and setting it on the table
- Sometimes requires collecting abandoned mugs from around the apt and washing
- I have paper cups if we run out of mugs (worst case scenario)
- Replenish Parle G tea biscuits as necessary
Let me know if you have any questions!
And again, thank you so much for your help :)
